This is one of those “a few bad apples stories”. Every year I hear stories about the Christmas party that suddenly didn’t have a DJ. Now this doesn’t happen very often but there are some DJs that take as many Christmas parties as they can, and worry about how they are going to cover them later. These are normally the same people that promise they will be doing your wedding, but when your day arrives, their Grandmother dies for the 4th time this year.
How do you avoid this problem? Well, the first thing is to use a local owner operator. This is an owner who does all their own engagements. It is normally one of the larger companies with multiple DJs, that you will have this problem with. Again, make sure they are local. If you live close to a state border, like we do here in Reno NV, you might not have much recourse if they don’t show up. Finally, be the squeaky wheel. Make sure that you talk to the owner several times, especially when the event gets close. If your on top of it, it may be the other company that gets shorted.
Again, I want to emphasize that the great majority of owners are very conscientious, and strive to do a great job. Like I said at the beginning however, there are a few bad apples in every profession, and they seem to really come out during the Christmas season.
